My Final Post (Maybe): My Cabbage Feast

Hi everybody!  The time has come to feast!  On the menu is CABBAGE!  We invited my family and friends over for the big event.  From the cabbage my dad made coleslaw and my mom made egg rolls.
Here is a picture of the coleslaw.

Here is a picture of the egg rolls.

We also had bbq pulled pork sandwiches, watermelon, chips, dip, veggies, my Gramma E's baked beans, pasta salad, and a yummy refreshing limeade.  We also had ice cream and my Grammy's hot fudge.  It was DELICIOUS!
Here is picture of our meal.

Here are some other pics of my big night.

Thanks to everyone who read my blog. This will be my final post...unless I win the 1,000 dollar scholarship.

My Cabbage Week 12 (Really 13), "Watiring thi Cabbige"

Late again BUT.... This should be week 12, but it's really week thirteen. The cabbage is still forming inside the center. It has not come out yet. BOO HOO!!! :( I can't wait for it to come out! I wish it would hurry up though. An ALMOST fourth grader doesn't have that much patience. When it gets hot, my cabbage gets kinda wilted. When it does, my 3 year old brother says, "I need to watir thi cabbige." It's so adorable.
Here is a picture of him "Watiring thi Cabbige".

Here is a picture of my growing cabbage head. It is about the size of a baby watermelon.

Sorry I am late posting again this week. BUT... This is week 11. This week (more like the last few days) was VERY exciting. My cabbage is finally forming! The leaves are curling around the center and the center is becoming hard. Here is a little song that I wrote about my cabbage.

My Cabbage Week 10, Better Late than Never

This is week ten. Sorry I'm so late. Better late than never I guess. My cabbage has grown a little bit this week. It hasn't gotten much bigger, but it has still grown. Actually, the leaves are kind of getting curved, and when I water it, the leaves hold the water instead of absorbing it. Now, some of the leaves are bigger then BOTH of my hands. BREAKING NEWS: My cabbage is not yet fully a cabbage.
( The center is not yet in cabbage form, hopefully that will happen in the next two weeks. ) Here is a picture of my cabbage week ten.

Here is a picture of me with my cabbage.

I hope you like the next two posts, because it should be full grown by then.

My Cabbage Week 9, Lillian Ladybug

This is week nine. This week was Amazing! On Monday, I went to my friend's house. Her parents let us paint rock pet with craft paint.
I painted a ladybug on a medium-sized rock. I decided to call her Lillian Ladybug. When I got home, I placed Lillian on some fallen leaves and rose petals. Then I set her next to my cabbage. It looked nice there.
Here is a picture of Lillian Ladybug.

Over the Weekend, I went to the Mt. Pleasant Camperworld, Pleasant Creek Ranch. I had lots of fun there! (Even though most of the time it was cold, rainy, windy, or even SNOWING.)While we were there, we came across a beautiful large orange butterfly.  I have never seen a butterfly that big before.  Here is a picture of it.

When I got home I went to see if my cabbage had survived the weekend weather, to my surprise...
MY CABBAGE WAS HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Most of the leaves were bigger than my hand! I can't believe that I have been able to grow this cabbage this big, since I've never grown anything else before.
This is a picture of my hand on one of my cabbage leaf.

My Cabbage Week 8, The Adam's Cabbage Leaves

This is week 8. This week my cabbage has grown A TON. One of the leaves has reached the cement. This cabbage will grow to be HUGE. My Aunt Heather came to town this week. My Mom, Grammy, Aunt, and me thought of a song about the cabbage. I call it, "The Adams Cabbage Leaves." If you would like sing it, it is to tune of "The Addams Family." Here it goes!

The Adams Cabbage Leaves
By: Cabbage Blogger 2012

It was.....
Droopy now it's Perky,
The Leaves are very Quirky,
It's bigger than a turkey,
The Adams Cabbage Leaves!

It does good in the am,
and also in the pm
From the leaves down to the stem,
The Adams Cabbage Leaves!

How'd ya like my song????

Anyway, the leaves are getting HUGE! One of the leaves is bigger than my hand! I still have 2 of the the original leaves, but the poor little things are suffering. They are cracked and bugs have chewed right through one. My mom says just to leave them, so I will.

My Cabbage Week 7, Veggie Friends Tale

This is Week 7. Today is Mother's Day so I'm giving a shout out to my Mom, I love you MOMMY!!!!!! Okey Dokey, now back to my cabbage... My cabbage is WWWAAAAYYYYY to big for the waterwall. My Aunt's dad Roy gave me advice on how to harden out the cabbage, or make it so it's not so picky. He said to take it out of the waterwall one step at a time. So..... the next day we left the waterwall off all day and put it back on that night. A leaf broke off when we tried to put it back on. I'm not very happy about that because it was a good leaf. The following day we left the waterwall off ALL day & ALL night. The cabbage seemed to be doing good so it hasn't been on since.
Here is a pic of me with my cabbage.

Here is a picture of my cabbage Week 7.

Back to the Mother's Day topic. My cabbage got some new plant friends this week. My Mom says it's like the cabbage is the mommy and the new plant sprouts are the babies. The plants that we got are some Mountain Spring tomatoes, jalapeno peppers, and some red cherry peppers. The reason we got the red cherry peppers is because I thought they were cherry tomatoes. We didn't realize until we had already paid for them. We are not sure what they will taste like, but we decided to keep them and see. We also planted a zucchini, but it's on the other side of the yard.

Here is pic of my new Veggie Friend Garden.

My Cabbage Week 6, Whether the Weather

This is week 6.  My cabbage is still doing very well in the waterwall.  I still need to keep it in there because of the crazy weather.  I like to think of this saying about the weather we have had called "Whether the Weather."

Whether the weather be fine
Or whether the weather be not
Whether the weather be cold
Or whether the weather be hot
We'll weather the weather
Whatever the weather
Whether we like it or not.

The cabbage has grown quite big this week. It really has grown too big for the waterwall, but I am going to keep it on for a while. Here is picture of my cabbage in the waterwall. See how the leaves are pushing up the sides?

Here is a picture of my cabbage outside the waterwall.  FREEDOM!! My mom and I are letting it have some sun outside the waterwall, but we will be putting it back on later today.  Hopefully it will Survive!

Here is a picture of me with my cabbage...(yes this is me, I got my hair cut) Do you like it, I do?!?!

My cabbage might be getting some new plant friends soon.  Maybe by my next post?!?!  We will have to see.

My Cabbage Week 5, The Little Shop of Horrors

This is week 5.  The weather was crazy again this week.  As I mentioned in my last post, we took off the waterwall because it was suppose to be nice and sunny.  I checked on my cabbage the next afternoon and it looked like it was almost dead.  The leaves were wilted and on the ground.  My mom and I quickly put the waterwall back on.  This cabbage does NOT like the hot weather.  Within 2 hours, my cabbage leaves were perked back up and did not have any signs that it had been on the verge of death. It likes to be all cozy in its waterwall.  My mom says that this cabbage plant is like the Little Shop of Horrors plant because it is very picky.  In the movie, they sing a song called "Grow for Me."  Here are the lyrics, that remind me of growing this cabbage.

I've given you sunshine
I've given you dirt
You've given me nothin'
But heartache and hurt!
I'm beggin' you sweetly
I'm down on my knees.
Oh please-
Grow for me.

I've given you plantfood

And water to sip
I've given you potash.
You've given me zip.
Oh god how I mist you
Oh pod how you tease
So please-
Grow for me.

I've given you Southern exposure

To get you to thrive
I've pinched you back hard,
Like I'm supposed ta,
Your're barely alive
I've tried you at levels of moisture,
From desert to mud.

I've given you grow-lights and mineral supplements.

What do you want from me?
Blood?

I am definitely not giving it my blood, but for now, it will stay in its waterwall.  When the temperature goes from 85 degrees back down to almost freezing in a matter of days, I think it is best to keep it in the waterwall.

Here is a picture of me with my cabbage.  It has grown a ton this week!

Here is a picture of my cabbage in the waterwall. See how it has almost outgrown it?  I am not sure what I will do when it gets too big for it?!?!

Here is a picture of the cabbage with the waterwall off.

My Cabbage Week 4, A New Leaf

This is week four.  This week my cabbage is sprouting new baby leaves in the center.  Although two of my bigger leaves did not survive, I will have some that will take their place.  My dad fertilized my cabbage again this week.  I think the fertilizer does help my cabbage to grow.  My cabbage is growing bigger, so we took the waterwall off tonight.  We will see how it goes for the next few days.  The weather might get a little stormy next week, so we might put it back on again.  Here is a picture of me with my cabbage.

My Cabbage Week 3 Greenhouse Cabbage

This is week 3.  My Uncle Craig came to visit from southern Utah this week, and gave me a cute butterfly garden stick that says "Spring is Here."  I decided to put it next to my cabbage.  Thanks Uncle Craig, I just love it.

At the beginning of the week, my cabbage was a little limp. The weather this week has been crazy.  One minute it's warm and sunny, and the next minute it's cold and rainy, sometimes even snowing. For this reason, my dad bought me a waterwall to put around my cabbage to protect it and keep it warm like a greenhouse.  I held the sides of the teal green plastic wall which has pockets that you fill with water to insulate the cabbage, while my mom filled it with warm water. After we filled all the pockets with water, we closed the sides of the waterwall so it looked like a teepee.  This is a picture of me and my greenhouse cabbage.

I check on my cabbage each night to water it, and it seems to be looking better. The leaves are not so limp, and more leaves are sprouting in the center.  I am excited about this because I was afraid that my cabbage was not going to survive the weather.  I am looking forward to the coming week to see what happens next.  This is a picture of my cabbage tonight inside the waterwall.
